Lake Pochard provides a wonderful setting for a weekend break or holiday. Ideal
for fishermen and naturalists, this wonderful setting provides the perfect
location to fish or enjoy the wildlife. The lodges are located on The Cotswold Water Park, which consists of 133 lakes covering an area of 40 square miles within Gloucestershire and Wiltshire countryside, north of Swindon and south of Cirencester.
Lake Pochard which is situated in the quiet and calm of the southern section of the water park not only has a fishing lake but also boasts these lovely new Scandinavian timber holiday lodges. Each lodge has either 2 or 3 bedrooms and all have verandas with views over Lake Pochard. The lodges are furnished to the highest standards and are suitable for wheelchair use. Rooms include LCD TV and DVD player, hob, oven and microwave, fridge, dishwasher and gas BBQ (gas included). Linen, tea and bath towels, electricity and heating is included in the hire cost. Free internet access is available at the on-site Waterside Cafe via wireless network.
Lake Pochard's excellent water clarity allows a special weed to grow on the bed of the lake. This attracts large numbers of Pochard and Red Crested Pochard to feed. However they are just a small part of the wildlife that live on site. There are a variety of ducks as well as many birds of prey, including buzzards, barn owls and very occasionally osprey. Kingfishers can also be seen flying around the lake, you may even be lucky enough to see one of the otters that have recently been introduced near-by.
Here there is also the only purpose built match lake in the Cotswold area. It has 72 swims of which 75% are accessible to the disabled. Day tickets are available from 7am every day except mondays from the on-site restaurant. The price is approx. £3.50 for residents (7am-dusk). The lake is heavily stocked with carp, roach, rudd, perch and tech and please bags of 100lb plus are common. There is also a limited number of tickets available on Lake Pochard itself, which is stocked with many specimen carp - £10 per person (24 hour period). Click here for more information on Fishing
