Lochwood House Wing is situated on the lochside of Loch Goil in the coastal hamlet of Loch Gilphead with stunning views across the loch and the Scottish Highlands. Part of the Cowal peninsula and within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, this area is considered to be one of the most scenic in the Argyll and Bute region.

This 2 bedroom property can accommodate up to 6 people in 2 double bedrooms and 1 double sofa bed in the lounge. Your private furnished decking area provides you with partial views of Loch Goil. Enjoy your morning cuppa out here whilst you plan your daily activities or dine alfresco at the end of a busy day as you watch the sun set over the stunning Arrochar Alps. Your privacy is guaranteed as you have your own private entrance at the rear of the main house to provide you with own self-contained space to relax and unwind.

Peace, tranquillity and clean fresh air await you but for the more active amongst you then outdoor pursuits can be found in abundance. Make sure to pack your hiking boots as there are numerous walking trails of varying lengths providing stunning views along the way. For fans of “The Gruffalo” take a trip to the Ardkinglas Estate at the south of Cairndow village where you will a find trail within their woodland garden. Watersports such as paddleboarding and kayaking are popular and available locally at Carrick Castle which is about a 30 minute drive from your accommodation. Both freshwater and sea fishing are available all year round at Loch Goil where you can catch sea trout, brown trout and salmon.

For day trips take a 10 minute drive west to Inveraray with its stunning Castle near the head of Loch Fyne. Learn about the Clan Campbell as you stroll through their ornate rooms and beautiful gardens or have an interactive experience with costumed characters at the Inveraray Jail. Whilst in the area you may wish to try the local seafood which Loch Fyne is famous for or come back to the Cairndow Stagecoach Inn for some locally sourced produce and their varied “Fyne Ales”. Your stay at this home away from home will leave you relaxed, recharged and revitalised.

Lochgoilhead village is 2 miles away with a few restaurants, DC’s Takeaway, a spa and even a golf course for you to explore and enjoy.

Costcutters and a grocery store are located within 2 miles of the property. Both Morrisons and ASDA deliver to Lochwood House. Advanced booking is essential due to the extremely high demand for this service.

The Lochgoilhead area is a hill walker’s paradise. There are around 18 walks locally. A few examples are: Glen Donich Trail and waterfalls – Lochgoilhead (2 ½ miles – allow 1 ½ hours), Tom a’ Chluig Trail – Lochgoilhead (3 ½ miles – allow 2 hours), The Cowal Way, which runs from Portavadie to Inveruglas, passes through Lochgoilhead village and is a popular 40 mile route for walkers and cyclists.

Booking Terms & Conditions

General Terms

  • The number of persons using the accommodation at any time must not exceed six and only those people listed on the booking form can occupy the “Wing” self-catering unit. We reserve the right to terminate the booking without notice and without refund in case of a breach of this condition.
  • Guests are reminded to make sure that external doors and windows are locked when they leave the property unoccupied.
  • The client may in no circumstance re-let or sublet the property, even free of charge.
  • This property is not suitable for wheelchair access or for children under the age of 12 years.
  • We (the owners) reserve the right to enter the apartment at any time to undertake essential maintenance or for inspection purposes.
  • Tenancies normally commence from 3.30pm unless otherwise agreed and guests are required to vacate the premises by 10.30am on the day of departure. This allows the accommodation to be thoroughly cleaned and prepared for incoming guests. Guests are requested to leave the accommodation in a clean and tidy condition prior to their departure.
  • Smoking or use of E cigarettes is NOT permitted inside the Wing premises. This must be strictly adhered to and any damage or extra cleaning caused by smoking will be at your expense. A smoking point is situated outside on the Wing decking.
  • Pets are under no circumstance allowed on the beds or furniture. Any damage caused by pets shall be at your expense and will be recharged by the property owners. Pets must be kept on the leash at all times when outside. This is to ensure the safety of the wildlife around our property.
  • The owners shall not be liable for any temporary defect or malfunction of any equipment, machinery or appliance in the building, grounds or Log Cabin.
  • We reserve the right to terminate a holiday without compensation where the unreasonable behaviour of the persons named on the booking (or their guests) may impair the enjoyment, comfort or health of others.
  • Any problems or complaints which the client may have concerning their holiday, should be reported directly to the owners as soon as possible and we will endeavour to put matters right. Please note that we cannot consider complaints made by the client after departure.
  • Guests are free to roam our grounds at their own risk, but should note that there are dangerous areas on our property. Please observe all warning signage as it is there for the clients’ protection.
  • We (the owners) do not accept any liability for damage, loss or injury to any member of your party or any vehicles or possessions, unless proven to be caused by a negligent act by ourselves or our employees whilst acting in the course of their employment.

  • Cancellation by you

    If the booking is cancelled less than 14 days before arrival then a charge equal to the full booking amount will be made.
    If the booking is cancelled 14 or more days before arrival then a charge equal to 25% of the stay will be made.
    In the event of a no show or booking reduction (after arrival date) the full cost of the booking is charged.

  • Use of Log Cabin

  • When using the Log Cabin, guests must follow the rules listed below:
  • Observe all warning signs.
  • Do NOT lean over the deck railings at any time.
  • Be aware that the decking may be slippery in wet or icy conditions.
  • When using the gas barbecue, please ensure that the gas supply is disconnected after usage.
  • Ensure that the facilities are left clean and tidy.
  • Disposable cups, plates, serving trays and cutlery, can be purchased from the owner.
  • Guests must ensure that all lights, oil filled electric heater and electric log effect fire, are switched off on leaving the cabin.
  • For safety reasons, guests must not drink excessively and should vacate the log cabin by 11.30pm. The owners reserve the right to request guests to vacate the log cabin if the above rules are being breached.

    Loch Fishing

    Important Information

    • There is no fishing direct from the property. However fishing is available approx 25 metres from the property (walk down to the beach).

    • Loch Goil offers free fishing all year round, where you can find Mackerel, Cod and Pollock depending on the time of year, while River Goil has both Salmon and Sea Trout runs from mid-March to October (permit required).

    • For Loch Goil there is free fishing all year off the shore or from a boat. June to late October there are usually shoals of Mackerel in the loch. Cod and Pollack are in the loch all year.

    • For the River Goil you will need a permit available at the local post office in Lochgoilhead, the season runs 15 March to 31 October, no Sunday fishing. Fly or worm, single hook.

    • Loch Goil Cruisers is less than a mile away where you can book a fishing trip.

      Loch View

      Lochgoilhead Kayak Hire from Carrick farm (2 miles) - Take a leisurely paddle in a Sea Kayak and visit the local seal colonies.

      Loch Goil Cruisers (0.5 mile) - Take a fishing trip or seal spotting cruise down Loch Goil.

      Drimsynie Hotel Leisure Centre (1.5 miles) - Offers a variety of activities including a swimming pool, gymnasium, 9 hole golf course, Archery, Sequoia spa facilities and indoor play area. There is also regular evening entertainment.

      Ardkinglas House & Woodland Garden (12 miles) - Situated on the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll, against a spectacular background of mountain and forest, Ardkinglas Estate covers about 4,800 hectares. Ardkinglas house is an architectural gem. The Woodland Garden is open all the year round with an outstanding collection of plants and trees, including the “Mightiest Conifer in Europe”.

      Quadmania (27 miles) - An outdoor activities centre providing quad bikes, archery and clay shooting activities for all to enjoy.

      Kilchurn Castle (35 miles) - Standing at the head of Loch Awe on what is today a low, rocky mound, but which, in medieval times, was an island, Kilchurn Castle was built, probably, around 1440 by Margaret, wife of Sir Colin Campbell, first Laird of Glenurquhay.

      Cruachan – The Hollow Mountain (40 miles) - The reservoir stands at 1,315 ft and the Power Station is built deep into the mountain. The Visitors’ Centre has displays and literature explaining the scheme.

      Bonawe Iron Furnace, Taynuilt (47 miles) - Once the main iron-smelting centre for Scotland, Taynuilt provided the cannon and shot for the navy, and a monument near the church commemorates Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar.
