Fishing

The Norfolk Broads are one of Britain’s best known angling locations and are home to a large range of fish species, including bream, eel, pike, rudd and tench. The coarse fishing season runs from 15th June to 15th March inclusive. You will require a current Environment Agency licence, available from post offices.

Walking
There are over 190 miles of footpaths and nature trails through some of the area’s most attractive landscapes. There are many short circular walks (4-6 miles)
as well as three long distance paths, Weavers Way (56 miles), Anglers Way (78 miles) and Wherrymans Way (35 miles). Guides are available from major tourist
information offices and railway stations.

Cycling
With miles of peaceful country lanes, the Broads can easily be explored by bicycle. Cycle down quiet country lanes, woodland paths or coastal routes and take a minute to admire the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. There are several cycle hire centres in the area or you can bring your own bikes from home.

Location

The Norfolk Broads

The Broads is the largest wetland in Britain and is specially protected with the equivalent status of a national park. There are six rivers connecting forty broads, making over 200km of waterways in all, and just waiting to be explored. Each Broad was once a medieval peat digging which was flooded to become a shallow lake after the peat was dug for fuel. Water, reeds, marshes and tangled woodlands make up the Broadlands landscape - a haven for birds and wildlife.

Broadland meets the sea at Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, two bustling seaside towns with first class beaches to be enjoyed. Places to visit include nature reserves, churches, windmills, craft centre's, and numerous riverside villages with pubs, shops and restaurants. At the western end of the river Yare is the historic city of Norwich. With its 900 year old Cathedral, Norman castle, museums, theatres, market place and shopping centre, Norwich is the capital of Broadland. Regatta and other boating events are part of life on the Broads. Ashore you will also find lots of local events, such as carnivals, and fetes to add to the fun.
