Property Overview
Location

Orroland Lodge is a traditional Scottish lowland farm overlooking the Solway Firth in the heart of rural Dumfries and Galloway, south west Scotland. The farm is on a hillside that leads down to the sea, and the resulting panoramic sea views are nothing short of breathtaking.

Enjoy the spacious, elegant and comfortable accommodation in this former shooting lodge. Relax on the sheltered, sunny terrace and feast your eyes on the views across the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian mountains. You are a stone's throw from the steep wooded slope leading down to the private rocky shoreline, where you will find driftwood to collect and rock pools and caves to discover. The large flat rocks are ideal for barbecues, picnics and sunbathing.

This large century-old lodge is continuously being improved, always reaching new, even higher standards of comfort and convenience. It houses 14 guests very comfortably. The large drawing room with open fire, spacious paneled dining room and well-equipped kitchen all add to Orroland Lodge’s attraction as an unrivalled location for holidays for groups of friends or families. Prices include all bed linen, bath towels, electricity and 7-hours per day of heating oil. Bathmats, oven gloves and kitchen towels are provided. Cots and high chairs are available and there are some children's books, toys and games.

We have taken care to ensure that we offer comfortable and convenient accommodation for assisted wheelchair users. There are two shallow steps to get into the property. A wheelchair ramp is available at no cost. Once inside you will find space for manoeuvre very good on account of wider than usual doorways and the overall space and ease of use of the property. Ground floor rooms included dining room, kitchen, bar, drawing room, shower room with WC, 3 bathrooms with WC's, 1 twin bedroom, master bedroom (5ft double bed) with en suite bathroom. There is a single step down to another twin bedroom.

Orroland has extensive private grounds situated ¼ of a mile down its own drive and there is no traffic here other than your own making it a perfect location to bring dogs. Orroland Lodge is approximately 1 mile from the public road. We ask that you bring bedding, bowls and towel for your dogs. Dogs are not to be left unattended in the property; large dog kennel and run is provided for this purpose.

Fishing
Guests of Orroland Lodge have use of the private loch and pavilion on the Estate. The loch is stocked with rainbow trout and permits (fly fishing only) are available on arrival at £20 per rod per 3 fish. We ask you to bring your own rods and tackle. The loch is surrounded by mown lawns and attractive landscaping. The pavilion has an open fire with logs supplied, a BBQ and tables and chairs.

Fishing on the River Urr is just 15 minutes drive from Orroland. The Urr is a medium sized river, well known to anglers in the south west of Scotland. The best run of salmon is in September, October and November. Sea trout fishing is best in June, July and August with the best bags taken at night. Thigh waders are adequate as most of the water can be fished comfortably with single handled rods. From September onward we recommend 12-13ft rods to cope with the heavier autumn fish. Your permit also allows you to fish the Dalbeattie Reservoir. The limit is 3 trout per day.
