Cedar Lodge is located at Stafford Moor in Winkleigh, North Devon. The lodges here are set amongst 67 acres of private fishing lakes and Devonshire countryside.

This Canadian style 2 storey cabin is pet friendly and can sleep up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms, overlooking Tanners Lake (13 acres). On the ground floor you will find a double and a twin bedroom along with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The master bedroom and living area are located on the first floor with patio doors opening out onto a balcony.

This is the perfect location for those who enjoy coarse and carp fishing with 6 lakes to choose from and 400 double figure carp with many over 20 and a number of fish to 35lbs. For more information on the fishing, please see the fishing section.

Lovely walking and cycling opportunities are on your doorstep with the famous Tarka Trail just a short walk away.

Location Information

Day fishing on all the pleasure lakes (Tanners, Oak, Willow, Woodpecker & Pines) is included in the price.

Night fishing on the pleasure lakes is by prior arrangement only & there is an extra charge of £15 per person.

Day fishing on the specimen lakes (Beatties & Lodge Lake) is by prior arrangement only & there is an extra charge of £5. Pre booking on the specimen lakes is essential at the time of your booking to avoid disappointment.

Night fishing on the specimen lakes is by prior arrangement only & there is an extra charge of £15 for 24 hours.

There is a Tackle Shop onsite - Open from 9:30 - 5:00pm daily throughout the year. At weekends & on match days the shop will open at 8:30am, except for Mondays the shop is closed at 11am. We do not stock live bait.

Local Pubs - New Inn in Roburgh, Kings Arms in Winkleigh, The Duke of York at Iddesleigh, The Royal Oak & The Rams Head Inn in Dolton (The Duke of York at Iddlesleigh & Kings Arms in Winkleigh have free courtesy mini buses that can pick up guests & take them home after they have eaten).

Local Shops - Bakery, Off License & Post Office in Dolton.

Beaches - Westward Ho, Appledore & Clovelly are approx. 25 minutes away & the North Cornish resort of Bude is approx. 45 minutes away.

Holidays Terms & Conditions

When booking a lodge a non-refundable deposit of £100.00 per week is required.

We will hold your reservation for up to five days, pending receipt of your written confirmation and initial payment.

The outstanding balance must be paid at least twelve weeks before arrival.

If your holiday is being arranged less than twelve weeks before arrival, payment must be paid in full.

Pets are accepted in Aspen, Maple, Holly & Cedar Lodge by prior agreement at the time of booking. The pet charge is £50 for up to 2 dogs max. per lodge.

No smoking in any of our lodges.

There will be a charge of an additional 15% for an extra man added to the maximum of four single males for the 6th man there will be an additional 10% extra charge.

A returnable deposit of a minimum of £100.00 for all units is required. This will be refunded to you one week after your departure providing everything has been left as you found it. An appropriate sum will be deducted for any damage or unnecessary damage left behind this also includes any missing items from the lodge, checks are made after your departure.

No Muddy boots/ footwear to be worn inside the lodges.

The lodges and their contents must be left in the same condition as found on arrival and any damage must be paid for fully if in excess of returnable deposit taken.

All lodges are equipped for six persons. Please do not exceed this number.

We would ask you to bring a maximum of two vehicles as each lodge is only allocated two car parking spaces.

Please do not park on the grass.

Please place litter in the bins provided. We wish to keep Stafford Moor a tidy place for you all to enjoy.

No bait or tackle to be taken into accommodation, each lodge has a lockable tackle store.

Children up to the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult while fishing, NO swimming at any time, or entering the lakes at any time.

We do not accept any liability for any damage/injury or loss to any person of your group/party or for any vehicles/possessions, unless it was proven that we caused this to occur by a negligent act by ourselves or our employees here at Stafford Moor or by any contractors whilst acting in the course of employment.

Cancellation and Insurance

If you are forced to cancel your holiday we will endeavour to re-let the accommodation. Due to being a small family business, we regret all deposits are non-refundable.

We recommend you insure against cancellation of your booking through accident, illness or other unforeseen circumstances

Beattie's / Lodge Specimen Lake swims need to be reserved when booking your holiday to avoid disappointment. Day or night sessions available. Please note fishing is included in your booking on the pleasure lakes ONLY which include Oak, Tanners, Pines & Woodpecker Lakes. There is a charge for fishing on either Lodge or Beattie's specimen lakes.

Important Information

  • PLEASURE LAKES:
  • Fishing on the pleasure lakes are included in the price of your holiday which include Oak, Tanners, Pines & Woodpecker Lakes.
  • Night fishing on the pleasure lakes only by prior arrangement - there is a charge of £15 per person for overnight fishing.

  • OAK LAKE:
  • Pleasure fishing lake
  • Ideal for families and youngsters who want a fish a chuck.
  • Good access via a gravel path and with new pegs all around the lake.
  • Mostly smaller carp up to 7lb the average is 3/4lb and plenty of good silvers.

  • WILLOW LAKE:
  • No keep nets are allowed.
  • 20 pegs all fishing from an island with access to the lake via a bridge.
  • The carp go to 4lb average 2/3lb.
  • Bream/skimmers also have a home here.

  • TANNERS LAKE:
  • Carp (Mirrors, Ghosts and Commons) to 13lbs. Tench (Green and Golden) to 5lbs. Bream 5lbs, Roach 2lbs, Rudd 1.5lbs and Perch 4lbs.
  • A 5 acre pleasure match lake dotted with 9 islands all joined by a sunken bar.
  • Good depths around 5 - 6 feet are reachable with the pole all around the lake.

  • PINES LAKE:
  • 20 pegs dotted on an intimate 3 acre lake with a backdrop of huge pine trees.
  • Island fishing lake only there are no pegs on the bank so you all now have plenty of room.
  • Main silver fish venue which fishes best in summer.
  • Perch 4lbs Bream 5lbs and plenty of skimmers Roach 2lbs and Rudd 1lb A huge head of tench and crucians.

  • WOODPECKER LAKE:
  • A 5 acre lake with one large island that gives plenty of room to fish and provides every peg with a feature to cast to.
  • Carp to 15LBS Tench to 5LBS Bream to 5LBS Roach and Rudd to 2LBS Eels to 6LBS.

  • SPECIMEN LAKES:
  • If you wish to fish on the specimen lakes there is a charge for this.
  • Pre booking on the specimen lakes (Beattie's / Lodge Specimen Lake) is essential at the time of your booking to avoid disappointment. Day or night sessions available.

  • LODGE LAKE:
  • Carp to 32LB Tench to 5lbs Eels and Perch over 5lb.
  • This lake is almost nine acres so plenty of water to go at ranging from deep water at the dam to 13 feet, to 2 acres of shallows at the westerly end.
  • From 1st March 2020 a session of 12 hours anytime £15. Any 24 hours £28, 48 hours £56.
  • From 1st November- 1st March we offer a reduced ticket price Day session 8am-6pm is £15, 24 hour ticket is only £20, 48 hours only £40.
  • Please note during this winter period the gate opens at 7.45am and closes at 3pm you can still fish until 7.45pm on a day ticket and you can still leave the site but you cannot re enter if you drive out as the gate will not reopen until 7.45am the following morning.
  • All fishing must be pre-booked and paid for before going onto the lake. You can pay at reception/phone booking or using the self-service facility.
  • Children under 16 years of age are NOT permitted on our specimen lakes.

  • BEATTIES LAKE:
  • 400 doubles with an average now around 17lbs and rising fast. 40+ twenties and thirties to 35lbs. Large eels nudging 10lbs and large perch to 4lbs.
  • 11 swims including the back bays, booking is essential.
  • A pre-booked ticket is required before you go onto the lake.
  • From 1st March 2020 Session of 12 hours anytime £15.
  • Any 24 hours £28, £56 for 48 hours.
  • Day tickets are not available for pre booking at the weekends including Saturday/Sundays (except you can call Jo in the shop on 01805804360 one day before you would like to fish on a day session to check availability).
  • From 1st November- 1st March we offer a reduced ticket price Day session 7.45am -7.30pm is £15, 24 hour ticket is only £20 , 48 hours only £40.
  • Please note during this winter period arrival time is when the gate opens at 7.45am and closes at 3pm.

  • LAKE & FISHING RULES:
  • Beatties Specimen Lake swims need to be reserved to avoid disappointment. 12hr day or over night sessions available.
  • Carp mats /cradles are necessary on Beatties and Lodge Lake.
  • Anyone fishing on the specimen lakes must be in possesion of Carp Care spray for wounds and abrasions. This is also for sale in our on site shop.
  • No sacking on Beatties or Lodge Lake at any time.
  • If using a bait boat on lodge or Beatties lake you must have an extra line attached, if your boat has to be retrieved by ourselves there is a £10 charge for this service.
  • Only Green/camouflage Bivvy's are allowed on our specimen lakes.
  • When taking any photos of fish here you must be low to the ground please do not take any photos while you are standing up.
  • Children are not permitted on the specimen lakes unless they are fishing with an adult which must be cleared with Jo first.
  • Any specimen angler wishing to bring along guests must book these guests in with Jo and pay the asking fee of £1.50 per day/£3 overnight charge per guest.
  • No Leadcore /no braided mainline allowed.
  • When fishing a float must be attached to the line (no overshotting).
  • Maximum of 8 pints of pellets to be used in any one day.
  • BARBLESS hooks only.
  • No lures or spinners to be used or treble hooks.
  • Pike fishing only permitted from 1st November - 1st March ONLY.
  • No method feeder/pellet feeders on pleasure lakes except from 31st October - 30th March (Guru X safe & Preston only).
  • Keep nets may be curtailed in warm weather.
  • 75 lbs maximum in a carp keep net, 30 lbs maximum in a silvers keep net.
  • Do not mix silver fish with carp in your nets they must be kept in separate keep nets.
  • A maximum of 3 rods on the specimen lake and 2 on pleasure lakes.
  • No peanuts or Tiger nuts.
  • No cat meat.
  • No live Bait.
  • No Elite/Halibut/High oil pellets allowed.
  • Only 2 tins of any meat (250g size) to be used in any one day minimum cube size 6mm only.
  • No loud music to be played on site at any time only radios on low permitted please be considerate to other anglers.
  • You must dip your keep nets, landing nets, unhooking mats, stink bags in the allocated bins at the site entrance before you fish, this motion is monitored by cctv cameras please help to protect our fish. (Please see notice board for start date).
  • Please be aware of ALL rules, if any rules are not abide with you will be asked to leave the fishery.
  • Please stretch out your keep nets 10 minutes before your nets enter the lake to allow the uv rays to kill any germs/bacteria.
  • All litter is to be placed in bins provided around the fishery failure to do so you would be asked to leave the fishery as we are passionate about keeping our fishery clean & tidy.
  • Fishing from marked pegs only.
  • We do not allow any reserving of pegs here at all, if you go to a peg you must fish that peg.
  • No gardening! If any plants/trees are causing you a problem please notify either Paul or Jo. Please do not attempt to cut/prune/damage the plants/trees.
  • Please treat fish with respect and enjoy your fishing.

Exmoor

Dartmoor and Exmoor - The National Park of Dartmoor is close by with many attractions, Dartmoor Wildlife Park, Becky Falls, Otter Sanctuary and Pony Trekking.

Exmoor - is known as Lorna Doone land and in complete contrast to the vast open expanse of Dartmoor small valleys, gentle streams and huge trees make it hard to believe these two great moors can be so different but so close to each other in Devon.

Sea - Westward Ho, Appledore and Clovelly are some of the beautiful beaches of North Devon approximately 25 minutes away.

The English Riviera - is 1 hours drive away.

North Cornish resort of Bude - is approximately 45 minutes away with the more rugged coastline and surf.

Daily ferry - from Bideford to the wonderful Lundy Island to spot the puffins and the seals that live there.

For the children - there is Bideford's "Big Sheep", "Crealy Adventure Park" and "Milky Way Fun Park".

Golf - 18 hole Libbaton Golf Course.

Dartington Glass Factory - Based in Torrington this is the UK's only remaining glass factory.

RHS Rosemoor Gardens - Located in the beautiful Torridge Valley with an award winning restaurant. There are various activities and facilities for families including play areas and various sculptures, children’s trails and craft activities throughout school holidays.

Castle Drogo - National Trust dramatic castle overlooking the Teign Gorge.

Lydford Gorge - National Trust, the deepest gorge in the South West and has a spectacular 30m waterfall.
