Location Information
ACCESS STATEMENT - ‘Grand Lodge,’ one of two Houseboats, is best described as a ‘floating log cabin’. The property is in private marina setting in Horning, on the Norfolk Broads and is mooring alongside a wide decking area adjacent to the water.
Access to the marina is via a private tarmac road ‘Ferry Cott Lane’ which has several speed ramps. At night this is un-lit, we recommend to our customers that they should bring a torch for use when walking in the evenings.
Car Park - The gravel car park is shared between private mooring customers and hirers of the Houseboats. There are two car parking spaces allocated for each of the properties which are directly behind the Houseboats. The car park has sufficient space for turning and loading larger vehicles. Please note the car park is un-lit.
Decking Area/Quay Heading - From the gravel car park you walk onto a large wooden quay headed decking area, which the Houseboats are moored alongside. This decking is made up of traditional ‘decking wood’ as used in most residential properties. It can become slippery in wet or icy conditions. A warning sign ‘ Caution Decking Slippery When Wet’ is positioned by the entrance. The decking area is in effect an island with water on three of the four sides, and is directly open onto the water with no fences. There is lighting on either end of the decking area.
Houseboat - Entry from the decking area may involve either one step up or one step down depending on the level of the tide – it can also be level. As the Houseboat floats, there may be a gap of up to 8” between the decking and the threshold of the property. The interior of the Houseboat is all on one level.
All interior doors are narrower width than standard domestic doors. There are French doors in the lounge/diner opening onto a small balcony which overlooks the marina and although this has standard height railings we recommend that children are not left unattended in the property.
Safety equipment:- Smoke alarm, fire extinguisher and fire blanket.
Please check with before booking if any member of your party has mobility problems.
